Normalize YAML indentation and catch structural errors before CI does
The yaml formatter & validator works like this: it parses YAML with a real indentation-aware parser and re-emits it with consistent 2-space indentation, correct quoting and normalized list syntax. Everything happens on your device - the input never leaves your tab unless the tool clearly states it performs a server-side lookup.
| Input | Result |
|---|---|
| Messy mixed-indent YAML | Clean, validated YAML that loads identically but reads properly |
All parsing and transformation happens locally in this tab - your code and data are not sent anywhere.
Maps, lists, nested structures, inline flow syntax and quoted scalars - the 95% of YAML that configs actually use. Anchors and multi-line block scalars are the notable edges.
Tabs are illegal in YAML indentation, and unquoted strings containing : or # change meaning - the error message points at the line.
Indentation to consistent 2-space steps, list syntax to standard dash form, and quoting to the minimum YAML requires - the output is semantically identical to the input.
The line and nature of the problem - usually inconsistent indentation or a tab character, which YAML forbids - reported before any reformatting happens.
