BMI Calculator

Body mass index calculator for health and fitness tracking

What is the BMI Calculator?

The bmi works like this: it divides weight in kilograms by height in metres squared (kg/m2) and maps the result to the WHO weight categories from underweight to obese. Everything happens on your device - the input never leaves your tab unless the tool clearly states it performs a server-side lookup.

How to use the BMI Calculator

  1. Enter the values the calculator asks for.
  2. Double-check the unit or period next to each field (per month vs per year, cm vs m).
  3. Read the result together with the breakdown shown beneath it.
  4. Adjust one input at a time to compare scenarios side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

No - muscle weighs more than fat, so muscular people often score "overweight" while carrying little fat. Pair BMI with waist measurement or body-fat percentage for a fuller picture.

What BMI range is healthy?

18.5 to 24.9 for most adults. Below 18.5 is underweight; 25-29.9 overweight; 30+ obese.

What inputs does the BMI formula need?

Weight and height only - weight in kilograms with height in metres (or centimetres, which the tool converts). No age or sex is used because the WHO category ranges are defined for the ratio alone.

Is BMI valid for children?

The plain categories are for adults. For anyone under 18 the result must be compared against age-and-sex percentile charts, which this tool does not apply.
