How to Download YouTube Videos in Any Quality (360p to 4K)

Guides · 6 min read · 2026-09-12

YouTube streams video in a wide range of resolutions, from a tiny 144p up to 4320p (8K) on supported hardware. When you save a video for offline viewing, the resolution you pick changes everything: the file size, how smooth playback is on your device, how much storage it eats, and whether it is good enough for editing or re-uploading. Choosing deliberately, instead of accepting whatever a downloader gives you by default, is the difference between a 25 MB clip and a 700 MB one.

Which quality should you pick?

Picking the quality before you download

Most downloaders either dump every available format in a long list or silently default to 720p. Zoven takes a simpler approach: you choose the quality from a dropdown first - 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p or MP3 audio - and the downloader fetches exactly that. If a video was only published in 1080p and you asked for 4K, the tool falls back to the best available option instead of failing, and tells you it did so.

To save just the audio, pick MP3 128 kbps for spoken content or MP3 320 kbps for music. That is usually the smallest useful file you can get - a 10-minute video becomes a roughly 4-9 MB audio file, perfect for a commute playlist or a language lesson.

Things worth knowing before you download

Rule of thumb: pick the resolution of the screen you will actually watch it on. Bigger files buy you nothing on a 6-inch display.

Do it with Zoven

Open the YouTube Video Downloader, paste the link, choose a quality from the dropdown and press Get Media. The title, thumbnail and channel metadata appear alongside the download button so you can confirm you grabbed the right video. Downloads land straight in your downloads folder with a proper filename instead of opening in a browser tab.
