Convert video clips to animated GIF images online
The video to gif works like this: it converts video clips to GIFs locally with trim, size and FPS control - the FFmpeg pipeline running in your tab. Everything happens on your device - the input never leaves your tab unless the tool clearly states it performs a server-side lookup.
| Input | Result |
|---|---|
| 5s of MP4 at 480px, 12fps | A ~2 MB GIF instead of a 15 MB one |
Images are processed on your device; nothing is uploaded unless a tool explicitly says a server lookup is involved.
GIF is a 1987 format with 256 colors and no inter-frame compression - 10fps and 400-480px width are the practical sanity limits.
Trim to the exact clip, drop the FPS to 10-15, and shrink the width - a three-second loop at 480px beats a ten-second one at 1080p by an order of magnitude.
GIFs carry a 256-colour palette - photographic content banding is inherent to the format; shorter dimensions and fewer gradients per frame reduce it.
