Encode and decode URLs for web development
The url encoder works like this: it percent-encodes text for safe use in URLs and decodes it back, distinguishing full-component encoding from query-string encoding. Everything happens on your device - the input never leaves your tab unless the tool clearly states it performs a server-side lookup.
| Input | Result |
|---|---|
| hello world & more | hello%20world%20%26%20more (full) · hello+world+%26+more (form) |
Text processing happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
%20 is the true space encoding everywhere; "+" means space only inside form-encoded query strings. Use full encoding for path segments.
Encode a single value (a query parameter) with component encoding, which escapes & = ? too. Encoding a full URL with component rules would destroy its structure - use the full-URL mode for that case.
Both are valid: %20 is the generic percent-encoding of a space, while + is the historical form-encoding used in query strings only. The tool emits %20 for components and explains when + applies.
