Sort text lines alphabetically or by length
The sort lines works like this: it sorts lines alphabetically, numerically, by length or in reverse, with case-insensitive and natural-number ordering options. Everything happens on your device - the input never leaves your tab unless the tool clearly states it performs a server-side lookup.
| Input | Result |
|---|---|
| v1, v10, v2 (plain sort) | Natural order: v1, v2, v10 - digits compared as numbers |
Text processing happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Plain sorting puts "v10" before "v2" because "1" < "2" character-wise; natural sort reads number runs as numbers, which is what humans expect.
Natural ordering puts file2 before file10 because it reads embedded numbers by value; plain alphabetical sort would put file10 first because "1" sorts before "2" as text.
Lines that are pure numbers sort by value; anything else is grouped separately rather than crashing the sort, so mixed lists still produce a stable result.
