Decode and verify JWT tokens online free
The jwt decoder works like this: it decodes JWT headers and payloads (Base64URL JSON) and checks expiry against the clock - without ever sending the token anywhere. Everything happens on your device - the input never leaves your tab unless the tool clearly states it performs a server-side lookup.
| Input | Result |
|---|---|
| eyJhbGciOi… | Header: HS256 · Payload: sub, exp, iat · exp validity checked |
All parsing and transformation happens locally in this tab - your code and data are not sent anywhere.
No - it only reads the unencrypted parts. Forging requires the signing secret, which never appears in the token.
JWT payloads are Base64-encoded, not encrypted. Anyone holding the token can read it - keep tokens out of URLs and logs.
No - decoding only reads the header and payload, which are Base64URL, not encrypted. Signature verification needs the secret or public key, which this viewer deliberately never asks for.
The exp claim versus your device clock, shown with the exact time remaining - a JWT that reads valid here can still be rejected by a server with stricter time skew rules.
