Create printable barcodes in 9 formats - CODE128, EAN, UPC, ITF and more
What is the Barcode Generator?
The barcode generator works like this: it renders barcodes as crisp vector SVG in nine symbologies - CODE128, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, CODE39, ITF-14, MSI, Pharmacode and Codabar - validating the input against each format’s rules and adding check digits automatically where the standard defines one. Everything happens on your device - the input never leaves your tab unless the tool clearly states it performs a server-side lookup.
How to use the Barcode Generator
Choose the symbology that matches where the code will be scanned - the hint under the selector explains each one.
Type the value; invalid inputs show the exact rule you broke instead of a broken barcode.
Toggle the human-readable text under the bars on or off as your labels require.
Download as SVG for print/design tools or PNG at 3x scale for crisp office printing.
Features
Automatic check-digit calculation for EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and ITF-14 - type the digits, the standard math is done for you
Vector SVG output that stays sharp at any print size
3x PNG export sized for standard label printers
Copyable SVG source for embedding in your own pages or sheets
Common mistakes to avoid
Printing barcodes too small - EAN-13 needs at least 80% magnification (~29.8 × 20.2 mm) for reliable retail scanning
Using CODE39 where retail systems expect EAN/UPC - store scanners are configured per symbology
Inventing an EAN-13 number that collides with a real product - get a proper GS1 prefix for anything entering commerce
Forgetting quiet zones - the blank margin around bars; scanners fail without them

EAN-13 input 400638133393
Valid barcode with auto-computed check digit 1 → 4006381333931
Best used for
Internal inventory and asset labels with CODE128 (any text)
Printing EAN-13/UPC codes once you have a GS1 prefix
ITF-14 carton codes for shipping cartons
Generating crisp barcode artwork for labels and packaging design
Privacy
Barcode values are rendered entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted - safe for confidential asset numbers.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a barcode and a QR code?
Barcodes are one-dimensional: a number encoded in bar widths, read by a laser line, holding 8-13 digits. QR codes are two-dimensional grids read by cameras that can hold thousands of characters, URLs and more. Use barcodes for product/inventory numbers and scanners; use QR when a phone camera is the reader.
Why does EAN-13 only need 12 digits from me?
The 13th digit is a check digit computed from the other 12 by a modulo-10 formula. This tool calculates it automatically - if you type all 13 and the math is wrong, it tells you the correct check digit.
Can I use these barcodes commercially on products?
The barcode image itself is free to print. What costs money is a legitimate GS1 company prefix so your numbers do not collide with another company’s products. Internal use (inventory, asset tags with CODE128) needs no registration at all.
Which format should I pick for inventory labels?
CODE128 - it encodes any mix of letters, digits and symbols, has no fixed length, and every modern scanner reads it. Prefix your own codes (e.g. ASSET-000123) freely.
